Restoring Viable Habitats
The Native Yard Project is a community-based, volunteer-led organization working to promote and establish viable habitat in our neighborhoods and parks.
Birds, bees, butterflies and other pollinators prefer native plants over non-natives. Many insects have evolved to exclusively feed or nest on one specific plant species. And when that plant is missing from the landscape, our pollinators go missing, too.
By restoring our yards & public spaces with native plants, we can help mitigate the effects of biodiversity loss and stabilize the ecosystem that we all rely on.
The Native Yard Project Grant
Turf grass does not sustain the web of life. Lawn does not provide food or habitat for insects, and we need them to keep our ecosystem functioning. That is why we advocate for reducing lawn size and planting natives.
However, we also know that transitioning away form lawn can be costly, which is why the Native Yard Project offers grants to offset the cost of purchasing native plants and seeds. But our grant program is so much more than a rebate check! We also provide support and resources to help not only grantees, but anyone, with their native gardening aspirations.
Grants are available to residents of Richland and surrounding counties and are open annually from February through March.
